Founded in 1946 through the collective vision and dedication of eminent philanthropists, educationists, and social leaders, the college has remained steadfast in its pursuit of academic excellence. Initially established as a college of Arts, Science, and Commerce, it has progressively grown into a vibrant three-stream institution, addressing the evolving educational needs of society.
The founding Principal, Late Pramesh Chandra Bhattacharjee, an ardent follower of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, instilled in the institution a spirit of intellectual rigor and moral integrity. Since then, the college has consistently produced graduates who have excelled in diverse fields at both national and international levels, enhancing the institution’s legacy of distinction.
Currently, the college offers a comprehensive range of programmes in discipline specific core and minor under the FYUG frameworks, keeping with the progressive ideals of the National Education Policy 2020, the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) which has been introduced from the academic session 2023–2024. Parallel to FYUG course, the college also runs general courses of Higher Secondary under ASSEB Div II for three streams. Our dedicated faculty members actively engage in research and scholarly pursuits, contributing meaningfully to academic advancement.
In addition to academic pursuits, the institution emphasizes the holistic development of students through a variety of co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
